Convincing

We began class by introducing ourselves to someone we did not know, learned about that person and introduced that person to the rest of the class. We were also asked to draw basically a half circle. (think the mouth of a smiley face)  This half circle represents the Portneuf river. We individually labeled as many areas and points of interests on the river as we could think of. after working individually we were asked to work with a small group and collaborate on the same task. I was shoked to discover how little I know about the flow of the river that is in my area.

I would challenge those of you participating as DIGI to try this task out for yourself before viewing the attached image too closely. See what you know. Note: the attached image is the collaborative result ank not my own knowledge.

We learned about the power of Narratives in persuasion and gaining audience interest.  We discovered for ourselves what type of persuasion might influence us individually to take action for a cause. Collaboratively we created posters based on our prefernce related to the Portneuf river and Edison Ficther pond area.

Persuasion type 1 Duty-Based

Individual resposibility

Persuasion type 2 Science

Data and Fact

Persuasion type 3 Engaged

Protest for the greater good

The gerneral idea is that Knowing the types of persuasion, can improve your ability to have your voice heard and accepted by your audience. Consideer what types of persuasion most influence you.

This sounds similar to Professional Learning Community strategies.  Setting goals, determining data driven objectives, making a plan for change, and working as a cohesive group.  Very cool!

Mark thank you for writing such a detailed description of the assignment.  I would love to try and incorporate some of these into my own classroom, but it's difficult to tell exactly what is going on when you're not there! :(  I really appreciate your explanations!

Mark!  Thank you for your response!  I wish I could I be there with you guys, I would love to incorporate your activities into my own classroom.  It's just a little difficult to get the full effect when you're 80 miles away!  Thank you for your detailed descriptions though!
