Floating the Portneuf - My Favorite MILES Experience Last Year!

Submitted by Dani Summerill on Tue, 2017-06-06 00:00

Looks like you guys spent time near Lava today and got to float the Portneuf.  This was probably my favorite day of the workshop last summer.  Not only did I enjoy the float, but I hadn't ever realized how clean the Portneuf was until this very day last year as an on-site learner.  As we moved on to learn more about Marsh Creek, I finally understood why our local river looks like "chocolate milk" once it gets to Pocatello.  Collecting organisms from the river and hearing how the health of these critters gives scientists information regarding the riparian system brought me back to my college days and reminded my why I loved studying science in the first place.  I hope it was a good day for all.  Sounds like Darcy Hale enjoyed her float more than most!!!  Did you get wet Darcy?? :)

We got hung up in a tree and the front of the kayak twisted and tossed me in!

The MILES project reinforces the importance of activities and labs.  An Idaho resident ought to say riparian more often.  Let's upgrade our vocabulary; well written Dani.

Thanks Maria!  Just trying to show I actually learned and listened last summer:)  I actually wish I could participate in the MILES workshop again because I enjoyed it so much, but I can see that I would just be repeating much of what we did last year.  I remember you saying that you also enjoyed participating a few years ago.  Does it seem to have changed much?

Darcy, I hope your dunk time was refreshing and not a nasty scrape.
