The Portneuf River Claims: "People are hard to love"

Politicians make decisions about the government. Auto designers make decisions about future automobiles, Art critics tell us what is “good” and “bad” art.  Scientists make decisions about my environment. Wait…..my environment? The trees? The birds? The Portneuf River?

The Portneuf River isn’t hard to love. The people who changed it and fail to care for it are. (the river ripples told me so).

I think the general public feels that they are without a voice in many decisions concerning their “environments”; unless you are an expert in a certain field, your opinion goes unnoticed. I often think there must be many people with great solutions to problems, but without a title their opinion will remain just an opinion.

The MILES program seems to rely on more public input. From such tasks as public data gathering, to public opinions on the Portneuf changes, the involvement of many diverse peoples of Idaho will have a great impact on Idaho. Giving people education and ownership is an aspect of MILES I feel will create this change.

I also like how the MILES program draws from so many different types of people, not just one source. It really does bring the public input into the picture, which in the end will apeal to more people. I so want to see that Portnuef restored and even better than before.
