Submitted by smitrose on Tue, 2017-06-06 00:00

Today we want everyone, digi and in person Adeventurers to make observations using iNaturalist!  Go out and make 5 observations of living things native to Idaho!  Be sure to join the MILES adventure Learning Project and put all your observations there.  We have naturalists ready to identify your bug, flower, lizard, and fish pictures!  Go forth and observe!

It's amazing how many fun plants I found just in my neighborhood. I couldn't resist adding the neighbor's "deeris Plasticus" to my collection--sorry!

Sure would be awesome if the butterflies would cooperate for a photo shoot. Good assignment, my wife and I were enjoying the yard chasing butterflies taking photos of the plants.

They don't sit still either!  Today in Mackay and Darlington I saw purple martins, robins, flickers, Western tanagers, violet-green swallows, loggerhead shrikes, Swainson's hawks, red tailed hawks, and a really cute fluffy baby great horned owl!  The only one that sat still close enough for my cell phone camera, was a very proud young male Robin.

My wife and I saw some awesome birds today as well. We live outside of Pocatello in the mountains with Douglas Fir and Mountain Maples. We saw a Rufus-Sided Towhee that was very camera shy but amazingly beautiful.

My young son and I had a great time doing this assignment.  We explored a park near our house and walked along the Snake River.  He said "It is summer, I'm not doing science."  Ha, Mom snuck it in and he loved it.  A little tricky to get the info to iNaturalist and the MILES project.  Fun assignment.

We spent Saturday at Yellowstone. There are so many diverse species and I had a great time taking photos. I am so glad I was able to post them and see what species of plant and animal they were (especially because there was a debate about what type of bear we actually saw). I can't say enough how amazing this app is and how I have loved using it!
