Final assignment
Could you make the final assignment file a google doc file? I would like to upload any pictures I have through that source.
Thanks
The divorce kayak
Today was such a fun day. It was so much information. I couldn't help but feel it would have been great to have taken the class before teaching our water quality expedition. And yet, I think this was so rich because I was able to picture how I could integrate and enrich the expedition for this coming fall.
Stephanie and I learned that after years of teaching 6th grade math together, not even the divorce kayak could made us stop laughing.
Ben Crosby and his team did a great job with the geography lessons and the integration of time lapse graphs.
Quick Questions for On-Site Learners
Quick questions: how did the water levels and temperatures vary this year from last due to the tremendous snow fall this year? I have read several folks referring to the cloudyness of the water as compared to last year. What caused these differences?
Thanks!
So much to learn
There is so much to learn from and about the Portneuf River! Whether it's looking at the aquatic invertebrates or the variety of fish or the turbidity of the water, we can learn something new. Why was the water so clear last year and so cloudy this year? How important are the sculpins, dace, and shiners to the overall health of the river? How does diverting the river for irrigation affect what happens downstream? How do we get our students as excited about the Portneuf as we are? How do we study the river when our classes are in the middle of winter?
Floating Photos
Here are a few photos from our float trip today. It was a beautiful day to be floating, although I wish the water was clear! We saw/experienced a lot of the ecosystem services: recreation, habitat, water for irrigation and power....
But why does it have an anal claw?
Today was an amazing day, we all learned so much, and had fun doing it, whether it was electrofishing, water and soil sampling, floating the river, lectures on geographical and ecological histories of the area and river, the experience was great. There were several things I saw, did, and learned that left impressions. It's hard to narrow it down to just one thing to blog about, without writing a novel; but to pick one of those things, perhaps being the juvenile minded person I am, occured after our group finished collecting electrofied fish and started scraping up creatures from the mucky... more
