Digital Storytelling from the comfort of your home

For the in-person learners who are using their own computer, and for all the digital learners, here is a link to Wondershare Filmora:

https://filmora.wondershare.com/

This program is a simplified version of professional video editing software such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro. It is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. You can "try it free" and download a trial version on your computer. The trial version has all the same features of the paid version, but the video output has a watermark.

Another option that is particularly useful in the classroom is WeVideo (https://www.wevideo.com/). This is a web-based program, which means that it doesn't matter what operating system your computer has, as long as the internet connection is solid. WeVideo offers licenses to educators (https://www.wevideo.com/education), specifically tailored to teachers who want to use digital storytelling in their classroom. MILES WILL PAY FOR THIS LICENSE!! Talk to Rosemary Smith if you would like to make this happen.

Are digi adventurers working on this as well?

Completing a digital story is OPTIONAL for the digi learners because you won't receive the technical support or guidance that the in-person learners will. But if you're interested in the storytelling approach, have at it!

Kelsey, would it be possible for you to post your digital story here so the digi-learners can see it? I think you did a great job with it!

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately the blog won't allow me to upload and post my digital story about cultural ecosystem services because it is a .mov file. However, I do have another digital story called "Pete" that can be found on my website: https://kmrobson.jimdo.com/.

Thank you for the information! I have never heard of digital storytelling, but am excited to use it in my classroom!

Hi Alesha,

Check out the Resources tab as well-I posted a number of links and documents that will help get you started with digital storytelling.

To clarify, Digital storytelling is not an assignment for digi-learners?  Thanks

Correct. If you're interested in using digital storytelling in your classroom, I recommend experimenting with the available technology (Wondershare Filmora and WeVideo), and looking at what's posted under the Resources tab. However, because I can't offer the same guidance and technical support to the digi learners, completing a digital story is an OPTIONAL assignment. It's only mandatory for in-person learners.
